"I love the play of colored water on paper. The result is a luminosity unique to watercolor. I chase it."

The Collection

I love the choices watercolor provides: loose and juicy, sharp and bright. I will probably never settle into a single style or category.

CREATURES

Dogs, cats, birds, and fish can coexist (on paper). Each has a place in my world.

GLASS

Glass challenges me to observe. There is a world of color, reflections, refraction, and distortion in a simple piece. I usually follow a glass painting with a landscape to refresh my eyes!

STILL LIFE

What I see in a still life is an opportunity to appreciate form, light, shadow, and mood.

LANDSCAPE

Landscapes offer me the opportunity to splash around. Here, colors flow into each other, sharp definition contrasts with soft form, light with shadow.

CITY SCENES

These are fun to paint. The light and motion of a city come alive with watercolor.

OTHER WORK

I tend to paint anything.

About the Artist

I have always been omni-curious and interested in artistic expression.  In my youth (by a forest)  and in my career (electrician), I regularly found time to draw, carve, photograph, write, sing, story-tell, tie trout flies, build furniture, explore off trail wilderness, and summit to see the other side. Then I spent several years doing conservation work in Bothell. Now I’m mellowed and retired. And I have Watercolor!

My subjects vary as do my interests. But there is a theme….

In my experience, all life is connected. My subjects always appear in a context, if only the direction of light.  In my attempt to express that, I accept a wonderful and humbling fact. I can’t control it. I have an informed intention with every painting. But when the puddles of color are ready, the paper wet, the brush poised, I get excited to see what’s going to happen!
